Description

RIDGEVIEW, a not-for-profit community mental health center based in Oak Ridge, TN, has an immediate opening for a full-time HIM Manager-in-Training. Our current manager has plans to retire this year after over 30 years with Ridgeview.  She leaves big shoes to fill!  We are seeking a motivated HIM Specialist who will spend the significant time learning and performing each of the roles that reports to the manager as well as learning the manager's role.  We will also be transitioning to a new EHR during this timeframe, which will bring its own opportunities and challenges.

REQUIREMENTS

This position requires an Associate’s degree in Medical Records Technology and accreditation through AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association).  Mental health experience preferred.  Minimum 1 year experience in medical records at a healthcare facility required.

The successful applicant will display the following attributes:

  • Communication Skills- ability to communicate professionally verbally and in writing
  • Health Knowledge- knowledgeable about ICD9/ICD10 and DSMIV/DSM 5
  • Technical Skills- skilled in Microsoft Suite, esp Excel and Word, as well as experienced in working within an EHR
  • Attention to Detail- organized and able to maintain health records in accordance with applicable HIPAA and related rules/regulations to protect PHI
  • Leadership- able to provide day-to-day motivation for a small department that is vital to the well-being of a nonprofit focused on serving community members with behavioral health needs



JOB DUTIES

This position is responsible for the overall operation of the Health Information Management Department, and for ensuring that Ridgeview is in compliance with all state and federal licensing laws as they pertain to medical records.  This position is also responsible for ensuring that all provisions of The Joint Commission and TennCare/Medicare rules and regulations pertaining to medical records are met.  This role has both hands-on responsibilities and supervisory responsibilities that include:

  • Respond to subpoenas/ court orders
  • Ensure appropriate release/request of PHI
  • Prepare records for court hearings/ audits
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate HIM staff
  • Understand duties of all HIM staff, including transcription, and fill in as needed during absences
  • Orient clinical/ IPU staff to their medical records responsibilities and ensure timeliness of H&Ps/ discharge summaries from IPU
  • Assist patients, clinical/admin staff, satellite offices as needed
  • Ensure appropriate chart retention, storage, and abstracts
  • Break down records to assure they are complete and retrievable when needed
  • Serve as representative for HIM on Performance Improvement Steering Committee and others as needed
  • Provide Quality Management reports
  • Update and develop HIM policies and procedures as well as annual HIM budget
